Bill Reynolds, a well-known sports columnist who spent much of his career working for The Providence Journal, passed away peacefully at the age of 78.

The prestigious newspaper claims that Reynolds garnered a sizable audience and praise for his renowned Saturday column, “For What It’s Worth,” which not only offered insightful commentary on the most recent sports stories but also opened a window into his literary preferences and various contemplations.

His writing prowess extended beyond his column; throughout the course of his extensive career, he produced a number of noteworthy novels.

Some of his best-known works include “Hope: A School, A Team, A Dream,” “Fall River Dreams,” “Basketball Junkie,” and the collaboration “Born to Coach,” which he co-wrote with Rick Pitino.

The Providence Journal highlighted Reynolds’ remarkable basketball talents as a great player for Brown University and Barrington High School in the 1960s when praising his earlier successes.

After a successful term, Reynolds made the decision to depart his well-known position at the newspaper, and he officially bid the company farewell in the early months of 2021.
