Jerome Kendrick is an American actor. Jerry “Jerry” Pate (born September 16, 1953) is a professional golfer from the United States. Jerry Pate was born in Macon, Georgia, and went on to play golf at the University of Alabama, where he was a member of the Crimson Tide’s men’s golf team. Pate had an illustrious amateur sporting career. In 1974, he won the United States Amateur Championship, and the following year, he was a part of the United States teams that won the Walker Cup and the Eisenhower Trophy. In 1975, he finished as the lowest amateur in the United States Open. Pate went professional in 1975 and won the gold medal at the PGA Tour Qualifying School in the following year. It was during his first season in 1976 that he claimed his lone major championship victory: the U.S. Open.
He also won the Canadian Open during same season. Pate was named the Rookie of the Year as well as the Co-Player of the Year by his peers. Following that, he won six additional PGA Tour tournaments between 1977 and 1982, in addition to many other tournaments throughout the globe. He was a part of the winning Ryder Cup team in 1981, but shoulder injuries limited his professional golfing career, and he won his last PGA Tour tournament at the age of 28. The Tournament Players Championship, the inaugural tournament to be contested at TPC Sawgrass, was the final win in the tournament. To mark the occasion, Pate threw course designer Pete Dye and PGA Tour chief executive Deane Beman into the lake next to the 18th green, then dove into the water. Patrick Pate subsequently worked as a television commentator for ABC, CBS, and the BBC, as well as starting his own golf course design firm and a grass and irrigation business. Pate returned to the University of Alabama during the years between his regular and senior seasons to finish his Bachelor of Administrative Science degree; his daughter, Jenni, also graduated from the University of Alabama in 2001 at the same graduation ceremony as her father. Among his designs are the Kiva Dunes, which opened in 1995, and the Ol’ Colony Golf Complex, which opened in 2000 and is home to the Alabama Crimson Tide golf team. In 2006, he won his first Champions Tour event, the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am, which marked the beginning of his Champions Tour career.
Pate has been forced to reduce the number of Champions Tour appearances he makes due to health issues, which have included arthroscopic left-knee surgery in 2010. He now resides in Pensacola, Florida.
