In 2015, she received a master’s in cultural studies from the University of the West Indies. She recorded with Mad Professor and has an album in the works.
She performed at Reggae Sunsplash 2006, and released Call My Name in 2007. It was a huge success in Jamaica and on the reggae charts of New York and Florida. The album won the 2008 Canadian Reggae Music Awards for Best Reggae Album (International). A single, Big Tingz, was also nominated for the award.

Sutherland was raised in Saint Catherine Parish, above Rocks. In 1979, she began performing and won the Tastee Talent Contest. She beat Paul Blake (and Yellowman) that year. Her parents managed her career while she was at St Andrew High School. When she was eleven years old, she combined her musical career and business administration studies. She recorded “Starvation on the Land”, which Bob Marley signed to his Tuff Gong record label. She also recorded several Christian reggae singles such as “Hands and Heart”, “A Young One Like Me”, and “Work and Pray”, when she was accompanied by her old friends, Anthony Davis and Rita Marley. None of her reggae singles in the 1980s made it to the Billboard Hot 100. Sutherland, Ziggy Marley, the Melody Makers and the I Threes performed at the memorial concert outside Jamaica after Marley’s passing.
After struggling to make it as a solo artist, she toured the US supporting Bunny Wailer and then worked as a backing singer at Gussie Clarke’s Music Works studio. Donovan Germain hired her at Penthouse Studios. Germain produced her 1993 hit, “Action”, which was a mix of Terror Fabulous and Donovan Germain. This track was used as the Jamaican Labour Party’s election theme. Vibe included it at number nineteen on its 2007 list of fifty greatest duets. “Action” was at number 43 on Billboard’s Hot 100 in the US. Buju Banton’s song “Dickie”, which was retitled “Wicked Dickie”, with Sutherland singing the vocals. This hit number one in Jamaica. Banton collaborated again with her on “What Am I Gonna do?”
