Stephen Marley Parents: Meet Bob Marley, Rita Marley

Stephen Marley is a musician of Jamaican and American descent. Marley grew up in Kingston, Jamaica after being born in Wilmington, Delaware.

Stephen Marley is the son of Bob Marley and Rita Marley. In 1979, a five-year-old Marley joined the child band Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers, along with older siblings Ziggy, Sharon, and Cedella.

Stephen and his brother Ziggy, were directly mentored into music by their father Bob Marley and performed alongside Bob Marley and the Wailers at the 1978 One Love Peace Concert in Kingston, Jamaica.

Stephen Marley’s father Bob Marley OM was regarded as a reggae pioneer, and his musical career was distinguished by the incorporation of reggae, ska, and rocksteady elements, as well as his distinct vocal and songwriting style.

Bob Marley’s contributions to music raised the profile of Jamaican music around the world, and he remains a global figure in popular culture to this day.

Stephen’s mother Rita Marley is a singer. She was a member of the vocal group the I Threes, along with Marcia Griffiths and Judy Mowatt, who gained recognition as the backing vocalists for Bob Marley and the Wailers
