Schilling was selected with the 201st overall pick in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers. He was waived by the Chargers on September 3, 2011, but was signed to the practice squad on September 5, 2011. Schilling was activated from the practice squad on October 26, 2011.
