Terry Robert Kirkman was an American musician and composer best known as the frontman for the pop group The Association and the creator of several popular songs for the band, including “Cherish,” “Everything That Touches You,” and “Six Man Band.”

He began playing brass instruments as a child during WWII. He studied music at Chaffey College.

Kirkman and five other band members started their own band in February 1965. They looked through a lexicon for a new name and decided on “the Association” after Kirkman’s fiancée suggested it.

Kirkman left the music industry and worked as an addictions counselor in California in the years following his resignation from the Association.
