Yung Gravy, whose music he describes as “Memphis, trap, white guy party music,” coined the name “Yung Gravy” after freestyling in high school and decided he needed a rapper name. “I had a lot of names, but one time, I rapped a line about ‘wavy’ and ‘gravy,’ and it just kind of stuck. I went with that spelling because I was inspired by Yung Lean”.

Yung Gravy was born on March 19, 1996, in Rochester, Minnesota to Cynthia Cleveland Hauri and Swiss-American insomnia psychologist Peter Johannes Hauri (1933–2013).

Yung Gravy graduated from Mayo High School in 2014. He then attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin, and earned a degree in marketing in December 2017.

While attending the University of Wisconsin, he began rapping for fun.

Yung Gravy was working as a startup accelerator when he decided to take his music seriously. He quit his job to focus entirely on his rapping career in 2016.

The 26-year-old rapper first gained recognition in 2017 on SoundCloud with his song, Mr. Clean. Since then, Yung Gravy has completed seven international tours and has released one mixtape, three albums, and seven EPs.
